Bye bye DRM?

Donnerstag, Februar 8th, 2007

Steve Jobs published an Essay about the future of DRM. He comes to the conclusion it would be better to distribute music wtihout DRM Systems in future for the benefit of interoperability. The current DRM Systems doesn’t work together and they are bound to a specific hardware (e.g. Zune, iPod, sony mp3 walkman). A song pruchased in itunes won’t play on a player by microsoft.
I don’t want to buy music online. One reason for this are the DRM systems. The other reason is the pricing. A Album often costs online as much as the cd in the store, so why buy it online? The pricing model of legal sounds is acceptable. Would the companies/artists earn less money with this model? I think definitely no! Why? Because customers would buy more songs. Just my 2 cents.

PHP on Trax

PHPonTraxThis week I found a ruby on rails clone written in php. After completing the Screencasts I think it’s worth keeping an eye on the development of this framework as it generates (like ruby on rails) a lot of standard code for you and it’s pretty easy to use. But they should update their screencasts: the speaker is not very convincing because of low volume and powerless speech.
