Recht unterhaltsam finde ich die Berichte der Deutschen Welle aus China zu Olympia und anderen Themen. So zum Beispiel ein Bericht über einen Zahnarztbesuch der stolze 1,80€ gekostet hat. Erinnert mich ein wenig an den Blog, den ich während meiner Chinareise mitgeführt habe

I just found a very funny mistake on AdFreak. A chinese restaurant wanted to translate it’s name to english, but instead of the right translation there was an translate server error. But as you may imagine, if english is not in your repetoire of language skills, they thought it’s the translation of their restaurant name. Watch the image here. Enjoy!

Testdriven development (TDD) with Adobe Flex, Air

The only recommended testing framework I found on the web was flexunit. But what’s that? The latest version was uploaded in December 2006, bad examples, poor documentation, some bugs related to asynchrous testing. Some issues are already discussed in this blog entry. If you want a “good” starting you should read it.

Are there any alternatives out there? It’s so sad…

Gebrauchte Software darf nicht mehr verkauft werden

Unfassbar. In einem Bericht von Silicon.de habe ich erfahren das es ein neues Gerichtsurteil bezüglich dem Verkauf von gebrauchter Software gibt. Das kann ein Referenzurteil werden und dann darf keiner mehr seine alten Spiele/Programme verkaufen. Ein Beispiel sind (alte) Spiele für die Spielkonsole, die oft auf Flomärkten, ebay oder Kleinanzeigen zu finden sind oder Software, die im Geschäft nicht mehr verkauft wird (Windows XP?).

Zugegebenermassen gibt es auch eine andere Seite: Kopierer, die sich die neueste Software kaufen, kopieren und dann weiterverkaufen. Gerade für kleine Anbieter ist das empfindlich.

Dennoch, dieses Urteil ist meiner Meinung nach nicht der richtige Weg. Bei Musikdownloads gibt es ja ein ähnliches Problem, da fand ich beispielsweise die Lösung von Napster mit der Musikflatrate sehr gut!

iGoogle javascripts errors?

Is it just a issue with me or are others experiencing the same? When I want to check my iGooglepage, all the widgets are empty and non functional.

Firebug tells me that there are 16 javascript errors on the page. I have the following active widgets :

calendar
docs & spreadsheets
reader
mail
notes
weather (Ok, at least the weather widget is working)

I tried to reload the page (even with CTRL + R), logout/login again and tried it in FF3.1, IE7, Safari (Windows): still the same. Already googled the issue, but found nothing related.

Any suggestions?

UPDATE: It’s working again. Still don’t know what happened….

Adobe AIR again: Creating child windows

As you might know, I’m a kind of new to Flex and Adobe Air but I like to learn, evaluate new technologies. I’d like to share small and big issues I had with you.

So I was asking myself: “Hey there are these child windows, which are attached to a parent window and if you close the parent window, all child windows will close. Is this possible with flex/air?”

At first the answer was no. Now the answer is yes. I figured out that in Flex this is called a popup which can be of any type (e.g. TitleWindow). Checkout the api docs of the PopUpManager .

Wuala Invitation Codes

Anybody who needs (or wants) an invitations code for wuala is very welcome to get one from me. Just leave your mail address in the comments. I’ll delete your email address after I have sent out the invitation.

Wuala is a new online storage system which will go live in the mid of august. It has a nice system integration, runs on MacOS, Linux and Windows and supports rightsmanagement for your files. System integration means you can have a netdrive mounted and browse naturally through your files and public files of other users and friends with your favorite file browser (e.g. explorer in windows). Rightsmanagament means you can decide wether your files are private, shared with friends or public. A new user gets one GB for free and can either buy or earn additional space. The user interface is really nice and intuitive.

With the invitation code you can check it out for yourself, otherwise you’ll have to wait until the official release. Let’s share experience!

DB ORM Layer for Adobe Air

Is there any Database Mapping library out there for Adobe AIR? Or does anyone like to start building and maintaining one with me? Just leave me a comment I already have done some experiments, maybe this could be a basis for it.
