Sometimes your audio output is just stopping? Even in the middle of the song you are playing at random times?

If you run into this problem and get the error message in the headline (or similar: shm_open() failed: Permission denied) there is a simple solution! Just add the following line to your /etc/fstab file:
shm        /dev/shm    tmpfs    nodev,nosuid,noexec    0    0
After that type (as root):
$ mount shm
After these steps the error should disappear and you can enjoy your music again

I ran into this error with my vlc audio server on ubuntu lucid server with vlc luggage and pulse-audio.

UPDATE: This fix doesn’t solve the problem with random audio cut offs. I got finally rid of this annoying problem by uninstalling pulse audio and using vlc with alsa.

Thank you wordpress for the great update experience with wordpress 3.1! Just one click and the job was done.

In future it will not matter which programming language or library you are using, it will depend on the Services you can use. IMHO SOA architectures and desktop integration technologies will change the way webapps are build. This process has just begun.

Data Portability, open architectures and standards will help to integrate web apps with existing desktop applications or even replace them.

You can already see this development going on by examples like OpenSocial or Adobe AIR.

Another big impact on webapps will be the use of mobiles, especially when it is possible to access the phone api (contacts, sms and stuff). Think of all the cool tools you can build!

And last but not least, people will change webapps. Real and virtual worlds have to melt, the web gets social, future web apps have to keep this in mind to be successful

Irgendwie hat das was

Virtuelle Maschinen lassen sich wunderbar auf andere Computer übertragen, doch wenn man bei Virtualbox eine Möglichkeit sucht per Knopfdruck einen import zu starten kann man schon verzweifeln: Es gibt ihn nämlich nicht

Folgendes Vorgehen ist notwendig:

1. Virtuelle Festplatte kopieren und mit dem Medienmanager von Virtualbox importieren
2. XML Datei der Virtuellen Maschine in das Datenverzeichnis von Virtualbox kopieren (auf dem Mac /home/<username>/Library/VirtualBox, in windows7 /Benutzer/<username>/.VirtualBox)
3. Auf der kommandozeile “VBoxManage registervm <XML-Filename>” eintippen (Bei Windows muss evtl vorher in den Installationspfad von Virtualbox gewechselt werden

Dank ubuntu ist es ganz einfach sich seine private cloud aufzubauen. Seit der 9er Reihe lässt sich im Bootmenü der Server install CD eine Cloud umgebung einrichten auf basis von Eucalyptus. Die Schnittstellen sind kompatibel zu dem bekannten Amazon EC2 Service.

Bei Gelegenheit werde ich das mal ausprobieren. Da die Installation nativ und nicht virtuell erfolgen sollte brauche ich erstmal ein paar geeignete Rechner. Wenns läuft melde ich mich nochmal.

Eine Virtuelle Maschine in Virtualbox hat in der Standardeinstellung eine Netzwerkschnittstelle die im NAT Modus läuft. an sich ist das nicht verkehrt, aber vom Hostsystem ist die Maschine so nicht erreichbar. Wenn man VMWare gewohnt ist, wundert einen dies vielleicht, denn hier ist ohne weiteres möglich. Stellt man nun ein Host-only Netzwerk ein, kann man die Virtuelle Maschine zwar erreichen, aber aus der virtuellen Maschine heraus nicht mehr die Internetverbindung mitnutzen.

Der Trick: einfach zwei network interfaces einstellen: Eins im NAT Modus und eins im Host-only Mode.

Wow, meine erste FFK Veranstaltung und sie ist leider schon wieder vorbei. Was ist die FFK? FFK ist die Flashforum Konferenz von http://www.flashforum.de und dieses Jahr war es sogar ein 10jähriges Jubiläum – Glückwünsche an dieser Stelle nochmal. Ich habe eine tolle Community vorgefunden mit sehr guten Vorträgen zu spannenden Themen wie

• Apparat von Joa Ebert, abgefahrene Bytecode tools für Java und Flash sowie Scala Basics
• FLARToolkit von Flashbum, für Augmented Reality Anwendungen in Flash
• Flash on iPhone von Saban Ünlü, oder auch nicht…
• audiotool und audioexperimente von André Michelle, verspielte Audiodemos mit groove faktor
• Usability Testing von Tobias Hauser
• Parsley Framework von Jens Halm… und … und … und …

Ich hoffe den ein oder anderen noch einmal wieder zu sehen und nächstes Jahr bin ich wieder dabei!

Was wäre wenn dies wirklich passieren würde? 90% aller versendeten Emailnachrichten sind heutzutage Spam. Dies belastet nicht nur die Nerven der Empfänger, sondern auch unser weltweites Netz. Und wer bezahlt den traffic? Die Netzbetreiber und letzendlich wir selber. Das Geld könnte direkt in die Infrastruktur fliessen.

Es gibt da allerdings noch ein paar offene Fragen:

* Kann man das Bezahlen jeder Mail erreichen?

* Wie hoch ist der Verwaltungsaufwand der Paymentabwicklung?

* Wie kann man sicher stellen, dass E-Mail Accounts nicht missbraucht werden?

* Würde Spam abnehmen?
