As you might know, I’m a kind of new to Flex and Adobe Air but I like to learn, evaluate new technologies. I’d like to share small and big issues I had with you.

So I was asking myself: “Hey there are these child windows, which are attached to a parent window and if you close the parent window, all child windows will close. Is this possible with flex/air?”

At first the answer was no. Now the answer is yes. I figured out that in Flex this is called a popup which can be of any type (e.g. TitleWindow). Checkout the api docs of the PopUpManager .

Anybody who needs (or wants) an invitations code for wuala is very welcome to get one from me. Just leave your mail address in the comments. I’ll delete your email address after I have sent out the invitation.

Wuala is a new online storage system which will go live in the mid of august. It has a nice system integration, runs on MacOS, Linux and Windows and supports rightsmanagement for your files. System integration means you can have a netdrive mounted and browse naturally through your files and public files of other users and friends with your favorite file browser (e.g. explorer in windows). Rightsmanagament means you can decide wether your files are private, shared with friends or public. A new user gets one GB for free and can either buy or earn additional space. The user interface is really nice and intuitive.

With the invitation code you can check it out for yourself, otherwise you’ll have to wait until the official release. Let’s share experience!

Is there any Database Mapping library out there for Adobe AIR? Or does anyone like to start building and maintaining one with me? Just leave me a comment I already have done some experiments, maybe this could be a basis for it.

A few people using wildfire can’t upgrade to the next version (currently openfire 3.3.2) because they need the iBall plugin and it’s original version does not work with the new openfire (See this forum thread). I modified the sources to make it work again.

You can download the plugin as jar file below:

• iBall Chat Auditor 2.0.1 (source code) fixes a bug reported by Tony (see comments)
• iBall Chat Auditor 2 (source code) (for openfire >= 3.3.0)

This should be seen as untested beta release. Please feel free to leave a comment, report bugs or success stories

Mit diesem Blogeintrag möchte ich mir selbst ein Bild über den Onlineshop norskit.de machen und den Ablauf meines Bestellvorgangs dokumentieren. In zahlreichen Foren und Bewertungssystemen sind auffalend viele kritische Stimmen über diesen Shop zu lesen (google). Entweder kann ich nach Abschluss der Bestellung diese widerlegen oder bestätigen, wir werden sehen…

Positiv an norskit ist mir die leichte Bedienbarkeit, gute Übersicht und der Livesupport der bei meiner Frage binnen kurzer Zeit geantwortet hat aufgefallen.

Mittwoch, 16.05.2007: Bestellung des Notebooks und Überweisung des Geldes per Vorkasse an norksit.de

Freitag, 18.05.2007: Verfügbarkeit von Notebook ändert sich von 1 auf 0 (Lieferdatum 18.05.2007). Nach ein paar Stunden ist der Lagerbestand wieder mit 5+ angezeigt.

Montag, 21.05.2007: Mich erreicht eine Bestätigungsemail von norskit.de über den Zahlungseingang (Juhuuu!). Mein Artikel wurde somit zum Versand freigegeben. Die Lagermenge meines Artikels ist nun 10+. UPDATE: Meine Ware hat norskit verlassen und ist via DHL unterwegs zu mir. Rechnung und Lieferschein ist online

Dienstag, 22.05.2007: Ich bekomme eine SMS von norskit. Mein Paket wurde an DHL übergeben. Im norskit Portal ist ein Link zur DHL Paketverfolgung aufgetaucht. Nun kann ich mir ganz sicher sein, dass mein neuer Laptop auf dem Weg zu mir ist! UPDATE: Das Paket ist laut meiner Freundin schon zuhause eingetroffen. Später mehr

So, alles glatt gelaufen, mein Notebook ist unversehrt und super schnell bei mir eingetroffen. Soweit bin ich sehr zufrieden mit norskit und kann die schlechten Meinungen (zumindest im Moment) nicht teilen.

Endlich gibt es secondpages. Hier können alle Secondlife Begeisterten (oder die, die es noch werden wollen )Ihr Lieblingsplätze finden und ablegen. Der Clou dabei ist, dass bereits jedemenge Plätze vertreten und kategorisiert abrufbar sind. Gefunden werden die Plätze via tags, name oder Region. Über das Bewertungssystem können die Besucher FLIPs (Famous Location Impression Points) für ihre beliebtesten Orte in SecondLife vergeben. Auf jedenfall einen Besuch wert!
